The story is set in the fictitious temporary unit ``4th Mobile Investigation Unit of the Metropolitan Police Department's Criminal Investigation Department,'' which was created as part of work style reform within the Metropolitan Police Department's ``Mobile Investigation Unit.''
The ``MIU'' in the title ``MIU404'' stands for Mobile Investigative Unit, and ``404'' is the call sign for the two mobile investigation officers played by Ayano and Hoshino.
The two team up and put everything on the line to catch the criminal within a 24-hour time limit!

[Synopsis]
As part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's work style reforms, the Criminal Investigation Department's Mobile Investigation Team (commonly known as Mobile Investigation) has been changed from a three-shift system to a four-shift system.
Kazumi Shima (Gen Hoshino) is called up as a member of the newly established temporary unit ``4th Mobile Investigation'', but due to some personnel troubles, she is unable to find a member to be her buddy. Out of necessity, Ai Ibuki (Tsuyoshi Ayano), a police box worker in Okutama, who had been rejected at the candidate stage, is summoned and ordered to form a buddy.
Uneasy about what kind of person Ibuki is, Shima tries to gather information, but discovers that he has been transferred to one department after another in a short period of time just because he is ``quick on his feet.'' "I don't want to talk to you," "I don't want to see your face again," and the more I looked into it, the more worried I became.
And then, the first day of the 4th Mobile Search Mission finally arrived. When Shima meets Ibuki for the first time, he is surprisingly polite and leaves a good impression on Shima, but...!?
